Research into MTV

MTV is an abbreviation for music television, it’s an American network based in New York City that launched on August 1, 1981. The original purpose of the channel was to play music videos guided by a video jockey, an announcer who introduced and plays music videos on commercial music TV. MTV has had a massive impact on the music industry, slogans such as "I want my MTV" became embedded in the public’s thoughts.

The original MTV logo was based around  the first space shuttle launch countdown of Columbia. MTV played music videos 24 hours a day, 7 days a week guided by video jockeys. The original taglines of the channel were "You'll never look at music the same way again," and "On cable. In stereo." Now MTV no longer plays music video 24/7, several spinoff channels do, for example MTV Hits and MTV Jams. Again on a different platform videos can be played on demand on the channels website, internationally the station continues to support a broad selection of music, including 4 channels in the UK that broadcast 23 hours of music video per day.
